I am pretty sure that the guy in the bear suit was played by a teacher I had in college.
wow, thats my brush with fame. LOL
I still have my childhood teddy bear, and it is a “Dancing Bear” replica. Thanks for posting this and bringing back wonderful old memories.
Watched this in the 50s and 60s, and always found Dancing Bear restful.
tell me why my coach calls me dancing bear. lol
/dancing bear wasn’t dancing after he met my 10-gauge.
LOL! Mr. Goodbody with the freaky veins scared me.
I loved Dancing Bear too. We miss him. :(
We loved you Dancing Bear…please come back and dance for us again.
I have to admit that Dancing Bear was my favorite Captain Kangaroo character back in the early ’70s, too.
Does anybody old enough to rememeber Caotain Kangaroo, happen to remember the children’s show, Uncle Paul? I’m not sure if it was a local Raleigh, NC show or not?
I’m a 40 year old Black man this year 2009 and I’m shedding tears right now looking at this old footage. This bear was my first childhood tv buddy. To me that bear was real in every way. Keep in mind I was 3 when he was on. Memories! I love them.
Peace.
Is this the DREAM gig or what?!
That’s my HOMIE ROME dancin around in that freaky ass corporate uniform!
He said he was totally hung over big time when he did this!
OMG!
Does anyone remember when Capt. K and Mr. Greenjeans had Matilda the elephant on the program. The elephant had been kind of a semi regular since it’s infancy but now had really grown too large for the set.. It was hilarious to see the elephant try to take over and move the captain and Greenjeans out of the small set.
All of the TV networks need to bring back good shows like this one.
I was afraid of Mr. Greenjeans. I always thought he was a child molester…..Not sure why, but I had recurring nightmares about it…..Although I did like the rest of the characters and the show…
thats his nose xDDD

I was scared of Dancing Bear’s mouth. It looked like he was permanently surprised.
I just showed my 5 1/2 year old daughter this, and The Town Clown—-loved both of them!!!! Talk about bridging the generation gap!!!!
To pourmista: I googled 1960′s and fat man with whistle and the closest thing I got was a show out of Boston called the ‘ Willy Whistle ‘ Show. The man never spoke just blew a whistle. If the man in question wore overalls then it could have been ‘Engineer Bill’. Sorry that’s all I could find.
I love this show! My older brother and I used to take a bunch of blankets and build a “hutch” and he was always moose and I was always rabbit. Ah, sweet memories!
hello i live in britain and aged 48 ,i remember an american kids programme that featured a fat guy with a tin whistle hosting a kids show, it was in black and white and this was the 1960s any ideas????
I remeber captian Kangaroo as a kid
