Okay, so you are preparing your children to go to school. You cannot really send them in with no knowledge at all right? As a good parent, you know that they should at least have the basics. The basics would usually include identification of colors, animals, letters of the alphabet, some fruits, shapes and of course body parts. With your children's natural low attention span, you may not have enough time to teach them everything before they go to school. So, how do you get them to know the basics? Get them some toys. Yes, you read right, toys.
Toys nowadays are not solely built to entertain your young. They are also made to become the first teacher of your babies. For example, with the right toys, you can have your kid learn anatomy as early as one year old! After all, when a child is merely three to five years old, anatomy is mostly limited to the basic body parts. So more and more toy makers are producing body parts toys for all the kids out there.
The plushes are not just decorations or sleeping buddies for your children, they can also give them a clear representation how a bear or a horse or a bunny may look like in real life. Books on the other hand can take care of alphabets and colors. So the question is, with so many choices, how do you pick the perfect learning toys for your kids?
Here are some guidelines:
Pick an educational toy that can “shoot two birds with one stone”.
The pictures in a starter coloring book for example can help you teach your kids how an apple or orange may look like. Moreover, once your baby starts coloring, you can also introduce them to the concept of colors.
Pick something colorful.
We know that you want your children to learn. But picking something too education and dull may not be a wise idea. You have to remember that they are still kids. The first thing that you have to target is their attention. If your baby is not interested with his “overly – educational” toy, you may have a hard time getting them to focus.
Pick something safe.
This is perhaps one of the most important. Children can sometimes get too curious, they often get fascinated and putts everything they are holding in their mouths. So in picking something off the rack, make sure that they are non – toxic and that they are not small enough to swallow.
Get something that will last a long time.
Quality is of an important value. If your kid gets too excited, he can easily throw their toys around. So pick something that can withstand rough play.
Last but not the least, pick a toy appropriate for his age.
Do not expect your 5 year old to enjoy a shape sorter. His needs are far more sophisticated than a one year old. So make sure that you follow the “recommended age” shown in the boxes. This way you can be sure that your child will enjoy it as much as you think they woul
