Are regular stuffed toys ok for my dog?
My chihuahua keeps ripping apart her stuffed toys, but she has a great time doing it. Is it ok to give her stuffed animals that aren't specifically made for dogs? Should I be concerned about something in particular?

I cannot answer this with a fact, yet I know some clothes have chems in it that are not good for certain people. I assume stuffed animals could have chems in it that could be bad for dogs too. I don't know if it's a fact however. Ask a vet.

A couple of things you might want to consider are:

    buttons
    eyes
    decrotive items

These are all things that can cause a choking hazard for such a small dog.

Our English Springer loves regular stuffed animals, but we keep a close watch on them, and when they start to come apart, we either sew them up or throw them out. Some have those little tiny white styrofoam pellets in them, and others have polyfill stuff. Neither would be good for your dog to injest. Also, if the animal has a squeaker in it, either do some surgery and remove it, or watch very carefully. My dog came to me one day with the plastic bulb squeaker from a toy stuck way back in his mouth. I was super lucky to be able to get it out, or he’d have suffocated. I always remove eyes, noses or anything else that he might pull off. Just be very watchful and examine the toys OFTEN. Don’t let him just sit and chew on one.

I gave my Shih-Tzu a regular stuffed bear, but I keep a good watch on him while he’s playing with it…He had nearly chewed the nose off, but, I got it from him & went ahead & took it off, before he got it in his mouth…He also tends to want the stuffing out of the bear, so…I had to throw it away, ’cause I didn’t want him to choke….Needless to say, stuffed animals can be dangerous. However if you do decide to let her play with one, keep a close eye on her at all times…
